What is Raspberry Pi?
Raspberry Pi is a very popular single-board computer, developed in the United Kingdom by the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It was originally developed for the purpose of promotion of the teaching of basic computer science in schools and developing countries, was then adapted into many applications. Include robotics applications due to the low cost, robust, with plenty of the software and OS available. Many robotic applications running on the platform such as ROS (Robotic OS).

The integration of Raspberry Pi and Neuviton LiDAR
Neuvition LiDAR is a maker of high-resolution solid-state video LiDAR sensors. Titan series LiDAR sensors have the following characteristics.
- High resolution with 480 lines to 700 lines.
- High data rate up to 1.5 M/sec.
- Long-range LiDAR 200-600M
- Video fusion with the color point cloud.
- Solid state-MEMS
Neuvition 3D solid-state LiDAR sensor is very suitable for applications. For example, Robotics, SLAM, Machine Vision, 3D imaging, Autonomous driving, etc. Many applications can be developed using the Neuvition 3D LiDAR sensor and software programming. It could also use with the ROS (Robotic OS) platform. Or use Neuvition SDK to develop a complete software solution. Neuvition also provides a client application that runs on Linux(Ubuntu), Windows PC platform. In order to develop low-cost LiDAR applications with a limited budget, engineers port the application to Raspberry Pi.
With Raspberry Pi 4b, the performance is a great step up from the earlier model. It has a complete desktop experience. It has the performance we need for the demanding LiDAR data processing of up to 1.5M points/sec. It also a great low-cost platform for the development of LiDAR data processing and analytic algorithms.

The Value of LiDAR Software Running on Raspberry Pi 4b
Software Engineering Director Gavin ported the NeuViewer client to the Raspberry Pi 4b platform. It runs well on the platform.
“Processing LiDAR data on a low-cost platform is very valuable. The platform has a large amount of software and open-source code. It provides us with many opportunities for development and innovation. Tests have proved that our LiDAR software has great performance on the Pi platform” Gavin said at the R&D conference.

the integration of Pi and Neuvition LiDAR will provide more innovative applications and more cost-effective solutions, including :
1.Autonomous driving
2.AGV
3.LiDAR object recognition
4.LiDAR 3D vision
5.Algorithm development
6.Robotics
7.Slam
Currently, We are using Pi integrated with SDK or NuevitionViewer to collect and process LiDAR point cloud data. Applications include Drone and other applications. For example, we are using Raspberry Pi 4b and Titan M1 3D high-resolution LiDAR to collect LiDAR point cloud data inside a car or on a flight platform such as Drone. The low power consumption and lighter weight of the platform allow the drone to easily carry the LiDAR for longer flight range.
Engineers are also developing slam and other application algorithms on the Raspberry Pi 4b. These are for robotic applications or other industrial machine vision applications. Low cost and the lightweight platform allow many applications to use LiDAR. Especially with the coming Titan S1 low-cost version of solid-state LiDAR.
